Video 2D to 4D: Multi-Dimensional Sensemaking

Magic was afoot in the pine forest at Saunders Farm, when the Coralus community met for our 10th anniversary gathering. There is great skill in magic-making and we discovered that as the group began to be more attuned to the pine trees, the voices of our ancestors, and the unseen worlds, many of our original plans shifted. We found ourselves collaborating with the elements and with the more than human worlds.

And although it seems seamless, it comes from great presence, skill, and artistry.

At one point, we shifted into a multi-dimensional way of catching what was alive in the field and sharing, not through reporting back, but through an improvised call-and-response with land and place as co-author.

And here is Azul Duque speaking about her practice as a song-catcher and song holder.

“My song practice is one of relationship to song as living entity. I am an apprentice song catcher and song holder. Emptying the mind for the body to become the vessel, the nest, the refuge for the songs who are orbiting that place. There are songs of place, and there are songs that orbit people, (these can be ancestral, emergent, from the future etc). 

It’s not as important to categorize them as it is to let them come through me because then the song that comes resonates in the intimate chambers of people’s bodies, because they are the songs that already live there, I’m just amplifying them through the resonance of the land.”  – Azul Carolina Duque
